Mums' Haven is pleased to offer new mothers and infants the option of a soothing postpartum herbal bath. The herbs used are a special blend (created by Mums' Haven) designed to heal and dry umbilical cords, soothe the skin of newborns, heal the tissues of the perineum and provide pain relief. All herbal baths take place at the Mums' Haven clinic and are scheduled during times when clinic is not actively running for maximum privacy.
The herbal bath helps to recreate a womb-like environment for the baby, with relaxing warm water filled with a special herbal tea that helps to nourish the skin and dry the umbilical cord. Babies often relax into the water and become calm and alert as they look up into their mothers' eyes. You are encouraged to take photos of this sweet process if you would like to.
The herbal bath creates a relaxing environment to soak your postpartum body into. The healing herbs wash and nourish your tissues, promoting healing and easing pain. Herbal baths are good for women with vaginal births (can be done as soon as the first day postpartum) and for women with cesarean births (can be done as soon as 2 weeks postpartum). For many women, this can be the first time that they take time for themselves to just be relaxed and to experience peace after birth. Surrounded by candles and flowers, you can listen to peaceful music or choose to enjoy silence.
Taking an herbal bath together can be beneficial in many ways. The herbs provide healing and gentle relief for mum's tired body and for baby's brand new skin. Together, the two can relax and bond with each other skin to skin. Surrounded by the peaceful environment of warm water and candles, babies often latch and breastfeed peacefully and easily (some for the first time).
